Nolah Signature Mattress Overview
Nolah is a manufacturer of mattresses for back and side sleepers. The Nolah Signature 12 is also known as the Signature. It’s an all-foam mattress that features a comfort layer made of AirFoam. This proprietary polyfoam material is infused with Nolah Signature 12. AirFoam is a memory foam-like material that conforms to the body. It also relieves pressure, similar to memory foam but without the “body hugging” sensation. Nolah also offers other mattress models such as the all-foam Nolah Original 10 and Nolah Evolution hybrids, and the Nolah Natural lax hybrid.
AirFoam is designed for cooler sleep than traditional memory foam. AirFoam is used in the Signature’s top comfort and transitional layers. A second comfort layer of high resilience polyfoam is included as well as a support core made of high density foam. Organic cotton is used for the cover. The profile of the mattress is 12 inches in diameter and has a medium feel (5 to 5).

Off-gassing
After being removed from their packaging, most new products emit chemical odors. Although considered non-toxic, off-gassing odors can still be very unpleasant.
The mattress will have a slight odor after it is unpacked. This is normal for this type of mattress. The off-gassing smell will disappear if the mattress is left to air out for 24 hours.

How much heat is retained by the body affects the temperature of a mattress during the night. Temperature neutrality is affected by several factors, such as the material composition and layer thickness. Also, heat dissipation through airflow can have an impact on the mattress’s temperature.
The Signature traps heat in its foam layering, according to temperature neutrality tests. The Signature might be too warm for hot sleepers, but it is comparable to foam beds.

The extent to which the mattress’s perimeter can support body weight. Mattresses can sink when excess weight is added. This is often known as “roll-off”, and it affects how close you can sleep to the edge.
The presence of roll-off in testing indicated weaker edge support. Signature mattress is not like most foam mattresses in that regard.

As they are easier to move around on, mattresses that are more bouncier and responsive will be more suitable for sex. Unresponsive mattresses, on the other hand, can make it difficult for couples to switch positions.
The Signature mattress is an all-foam mattress. This makes it difficult to move around on. Although it provides a good surface for sex, it is not ideal.

Ratings for Sleep Positions
We evaluated the Nolah Signature Mattress against different body types and preferred sleeping positions as part of our rating process. We also conducted physical testing and reviewed reviews submitted by verified mattress owners. The table below shows our findings.
Nolah Signature Mattress Awards
The Nolah Signature Mattress received the following awards in our Mattress Guides because of the positive feedback from both our testing team as well as the owners.
Cover
To help you sleep better, the Nolah Signature’s cover uses unbleached organic cotton. Because foam mattresses tend to retain more heat than other materials, this is a useful feature.
Comfort Layers
Two comfort layers are included in the Signature 12. AirFoam is the top layer. The top layer is 2.5 inches thick. It provides body contouring without the “hugging” feeling of memory foam. The second comfort layer is made of high-resilience Polyfoam, measuring 1.5 inches in thickness. This material adds cushioning and supports the body.
Transition Layer
The Signature’s transitional layer, also made from AirFoam is also available. However, this layer has a denser structure to prevent excessive sinking.
Support Layers
High-density polyfoam is used as the support core. Although it is strong and can stabilize the mattress, this material won’t offer the same degree of reinforcement as springs.
Mattress Height
The Nolah Signature mattress’s layers are 12 inches high. This puts it in the high-profile category. This is due in part to the 7-inch HD support foam and the deep comfort system.

What is the Firmness and Feel like?
The Nolah Signature Mattress is medium in feel. This makes it an excellent choice for those who want to have a combination of support and contouring. People weighing up to 230 lbs should find the foam comfortable, but it shouldn’t sink too far, especially if they are sleeping on their backs or sides.
The Signature was originally a flippable mattress that had a medium soft surface ((4)) and a firm surface ((7)). This version is no more available.
Durability
The Signature’s durability is good to us. Nolah isn’t yet in business long enough for us to assess the durability of their mattresses over time. We have based our durability rating on the quality of the construction and the materials used in the mattress. The Signature mattress is more durable than other models due to the fact that its four polyfoam layers are dense.
Foam mattresses can last 6 to 7 years. This is especially true for light sleepers, who are less likely than heavier ones to leave permanent impressions in the foam. The Signature is not an all-foam mattress, however. Most use lower-density foam as their comfort layers, while the HD foam is used for support and transition layers.
Motion Isolation
The Nolah Signature Mattress is motion-isolating and virtually eliminates movement transfer from one side to the other. Two of our test subjects were able to simultaneously rest on the Signature. The Signature was able to be moved by one tester while the other was alert for movement across the mattress’ surface. Similar results were reported by our external testers with the Nolah Signature at their home with their partners.
Off Gassing
The Signature was noticeable to our team when it was unboxed. This is normal for foam mattresses and it did decrease over time. The “new mattress smell” can be quickly removed by airing it out in a well-ventilated room.
It is worth noting, however, that the Signature mattress was smelt a little bit from the factory. However, all of the Signature foam materials have been CertiPUR US certified to be free from hazardous chemicals such as formaldehyde and flame retardants.
Pressure Relief
To measure Signature’s pressure relief, we used both 2D and 3-D sensory mapping technology. Our testers slept on a sensor pad placed on top of the mattress to monitor pressure buildup. This allowed us to see how much pressure was relieved by the mattress, particularly at contact points such as the hips and shoulders.
For those who are 230 pounds and less, the Signature provided excellent pressure relief. The Signature was too soft for stomach sleepers, who are heavier than those who use it.
Temperature Neutrality
Foam mattresses trap body heat. This is especially true for thicker comfort layers, which allow sleepers to sink in. This was true for the Signature. The Signature mattress retained some warmth but the AirFoam’s open cell composition kept heat from retaining. The Signature’s cotton cover has moisture-wicking and is very breathable.
Edge Support
Each of our sleep testers sat on the Signature’s edge to gauge its support. During the sit test, the Signature’s edge dropped significantly below each tester.
Our testers slept close to the edge of the mattress for another edge support test. All three of our testers felt that there was sufficient support at the edges. Our heavy-weight tester felt a slight “roll off” sensation from the edge compressing.
Noise
Signature is an all foam mattress. There are no air channels, innersprings or other adjustable mechanisms that can generate noise. This results in a quiet mattress that doesn’t make creaking sounds when sleepers or their partners move during sleep.
Sex
Signature’s comfort layer is thick and allows sleepers to sink into it. The four-layer foam construction also isolates motion. The Signature is also very responsive to movement and doesn’t bounce as much.
The Signature’s comfort layers of foam offer more traction than an innerspring mattress. The Signature is quiet and discreet, which is a benefit for couples sharing a house or apartment wall with other people.
Sleeper Ratings
Let’s now discuss the Nolah Signature 12 Mattress’s sleeper ratings.
The best firmness and thickness settings of a mattress will depend on the sleeper’s body type, weight, and preferred sleeping position. To better inform readers and avoid subjectivity in the review, the team tested the mattress with sleep testers from different body types and preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers-Less Than 130 Pounds
The Signature is a great choice for light sleepers. It offers excellent pressure relief and spine alignment for stomach, side, and back sleepers. People who are less than 130 lbs tend to prefer soft surfaces.
For proper pressure relief, many light sleepers prefer a firm, conforming mattress. Our testers, who weighed less than 130 lbs, found this to be true. They received ample cushioning from Nolah Signature, but the mattress didn’t sink too much around their midsections.
Average Weight of Sleepers – 130 to 220 lbs
Side sleepers, in particular, will find the mattress a good choice. The Signature’s medium feel was appreciated by our average weight testers. This feedback is in line with most average-weight sleepers. This weight group typically prefers a medium-to-medium firm surface that provides support and pressure relief.
Heavyweight Sleepers — More Than 230 lbs.
Sleep testers who weighed more than 230 lbs didn’t feel as comfortable as those who were lighter. This was especially true for stomach and back sleepers who were in the same weight range. It is made with dense foam layers, which provide good reinforcement but are not strong enough to prevent sinkage in heavier people. If you fall within this category, you might want to look for a firmer and more supportive mattress.
Nolah Signature 12 Price
This bed is about $300-$400 more expensive than the entry-level Original 10. It’s $300-$400 more costly than the Original 10, after applying a coupon code. It’s not a big difference considering that it’s objectively a better bed. However, it may not be worth the extra cost if you are a side or medium sleeper. This scenario allows you to save money and still be happy with the Original 10.
