A programme targeted at mid-career writers and translators.
We have started our first Residency project.
Our first two translators-in-residence are senior journalist Abdul Rahman Basrun and medical student Abdul Muhaimin, who are working on the translation of a history of Malay poetry in Singapore, written by Cultural Medallion winner Isa Kamari into English.
They will be sharing their experience of translating the work at TranslateSingapore and Singapore Writers' Festival, in a programme moderated by local academic Nazry Bahrawi, with recitations of selected source and translated pieces by guest readers.
This translation of Potret Puisi Melayu Singapura (A Portrait of Singapore Malay Poetry) is the first comprehensive examination at history of Singapore Malay poetry available in English. We are exploring the translation of this work into other languages in subsequent projects.
Please stay tuned for calls for applications for future residencies.
